Hey Everybody,

So it seems that 2016 is going to be one of those years in history where the world suddenly pivots and thrusts us in a direction we did not predict and perhaps do not welcome. The election of Donald Trump as President Elect of the United States is a stunning rebuke to what has gone before, the peak to an accelerating trend in the rise of the right wing across the globe.

There are huge implications for everyone working in the field of human work. Is this the beginning of the end of globalisation? What does it mean for offshoring, workforce automation, flexible working? What can it possibly mean for the politics of diversity & inclusion? The only thing we know for sure are values once held infallible will now be vigorously contested by those rising to power.

On Hiring will continue to cover these topics with content that stimulates thinking, challenges perceived wisdom and promotes dialogue. It is clear from the surprise we share that we have failed to hear from all voices in our societies. The first thing to do is make sure we broaden the umbrella of inclusion to make room for all those voices. This may not be easy, but I urge you to join me in trying. True communication only starts when those with whom we want to engage can say ‘Yes, this is how I feel’. If we cannot achieve this first step, then everything we do will just be noise.
